In total, 18 IFD units and six GFD units were sent to the scene. Firefighters confirmed the blaze mostly impacted the third floor and attic of a Latitudes Apartments building. Officials indicated that high winds likely pushed the fire from the structure's living area to its attic.
Firefighters brought the blaze under control in approximately 29 minutes. Crews also swept the building twice to confirm nobody was trapped inside it.
IFD reported that two people — one adult and one child — were injured during the fire. Both individuals were transported from the scene to local medical facilities for treatment of slight injuries.
At least 10 people were displaced by the fire. IFD indicated that it is still possible more than 10 people will be displaced by the fire.
Twelve apartments were impacted by the fire — four were heavily involved in flames and eight sustained smoke and water damage.
IFD crews removed multiple pets from the apartment building. One cat died in the fire and another cat was unaccounted for as of 8:12 p.m. Monday.
IFD confirmed that its investigators responded to the scene. Officials have not yet provided any details on the findings their investigation yielded.
