Lesslethal gun maker based in Fort Wayne opens local retailer

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - A local manufacturer that specializes in less-lethal weapons now has a retail store in Fort Wayne.
Byrna has already been making its products in Fort Wayne, but recently opened a retailer in the area as well. The concept behind the weapons is to employ self-defense witho
ut lethal force.
Samuel Letherer, training manager who also leads a Nashville location, demonstrated how to use the company's launcher:
The launcher has a 60-feet range. Its effect is twofold, Letherer explained, including a kinetic projectile that induces pain, as well as a chemical projectile similar to what's in pepper spray or tear gas.
"We don't want to go to the ultimate nuclear option," Letherer explained. "If we can stop something before it actually escalates to that, that's what we're looking to do."
The store is located at 4534 Industrial Road, off Lima Road and Coliseum Boulevard. Byrna is open from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and closed on Sundays.
