FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE)— With the last day to file your 2024 taxes being Tuesday, there's a few last-minute options for those who haven't done the paperwork yet.
While there are free websites where people can file through Tuesday, Wes Phelps, an investment adviser representative with TradeWell
Tax Financial in Fort Wayne, recommended filing an extension rather than rushing the forms.

"I wouldn't necessarily rush it," Phelps said. "It's something to go through and take your time. So, you don't just want to push one through just to push it through."
Once an extension is filed, you have until October to file. Phelps said it's still wise to have a tax professional work on your forms once you have filed an extension.
"The extension just gives us more time to take our time with the proper tax return and putting it together," Phelps said.
Phelps added that you have until the end of Tuesday to contribute to your IRAs for them to count toward your 2024 taxes. That could save you from paying a "decent" amount of taxes, he said.
