Man sentenced to 30years in prison for 2023 shooting on Lake Avenue

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — A 30-year prison sentence was handed down Monday in State Supreme Court in connection to a 2023 shooting in Rochester.
33-year-old Johnkiomi Ruiz was convicted of first-degree assault and two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
On June 20, 2023,
a 24-year-old man was shot in the back as he attempted to run away from Ruiz.
“Johnkiomi Ruiz chose to hunt the victim down as he attempted to flee, shooting him in the back. The survivor in this case not only faced a near-death experience, but also has lifelong wounds to remind him of this trauma," Assistant District Attorney Adam VanHeyst said.
In addition to the 30-years in prison, Ruiz is also required to undergo five years of post-release supervision. ...read more read less
