KHP releases names of 8 victims in dust storm pileup

SHERMAN COUNTY, Kan. (KSNW) – The Kansas Highway Patrol says it is still writing collision reports about the fatal 71-vehicle pileup in northwest Kansas one month ago, but it is finally able to release the names of the eight people who d
ied during a blinding dust storm on March 14.
The crash happened along Interstate 70, about nine miles east of Goodland, near the town of Edson in Sherman County between 3:20 p.m. and 3:35 p.m. on March 14. In addition to the eight people killed, 46 people were injured.

Four of those killed were from Kansas. The others were from Pennsylvania, Oklahoma, Indiana, and Michigan:
Larry D. Smith, 72, Sharon Springs, driving an F150.
Dawson R. Hogan, 20, Salina, driving a 2016 Acura TLX.
Baiel Sharshembiev, 24, Philadelphia, driving a Volvo truck.
Carlos S. Arzate, 48, Shattuck, Oklahoma, driving an F350.
Manuel Alarcon, 57, Dodge City, a passenger in Carlos Arzate's F350.
Stephanie D. Purcell, 61, Evansville, Indiana, driving a Toyota Highlander.
Mario Juarez, 31, Garden City, a passenger in an F150.
Giovanni S. Stefan, 60, Troy, Michigan, driving a Mercedes Sprinter.
