Springfield man arrested for alleged child assault, gun and cocaine seized

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - A Springfield man was arrested on Friday for alleged sexual assault involving a child.

The Springfield Police Department states that on April 9th, members of the Springfield Police Special Victims
Unit (SVU) were investigation allegations of a sexual assault involving a child and an adult.
The adult, who was later identified as 25-year-old Hector Lopez of Springfield, was known to the child. It is alleged that Lopez was armed with a gun during the incident. SVU Detectives applied for and were granted a warrant for Lopez's arrest on April 11th.
Members of the Springfield Police FIU conducted surveillance in the area of Bristol Street to try and locate Lopez after the arrest warrant was granted. Lopez was seen getting into a vehicle and drive away. Once the car was stopped on the 1300 block of Boston Road in a parking lot, a traffic stop was conducted.
The driver and the front seat passenger were detained and later released. Lopez was arrested and a loaded large capacity firearm was found inside the car, along with over five grams of crack-cocaine on his person.
This investigation is ongoing and Lopez is expected to be arraigned in Springfield District Court on Monday. Lopez is charged with the following:
Carrying a Firearm without a License
Carrying a Loaded Large Capacity Firearm on a Public Way
Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Felony
Firearm Violation with 3 Prior Violent/Drug Crimes
Convicted Felon in Possession of a Firearm
Violation of a Firearm Surrender Order
Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Class B Drug
Arrest Warrant– Firearm-Armed Rape of a Child with Force– Rape of a Child – Ten Year Age Difference– Threat to Commit a Crime– Witness Intimidation– Stalking– Strangulation or Suffocation– Armed Kidnapping with Sexual Assault– Assault with a Dangerous Weapon
