This fire serves as a reminder to make sure your smoke detectors are functioning and to have an emergency plan. Alarms are crucial home safety tools and should be installed on every level of your house. It is important to get alarms from a well-known national brand that is listed by an independent laboratory like Underwriters Laboratories (UL) or Intertek (ETL). When installing a new smoke alarm, get a replacement with a sealed, long-life battery and a hush feature.
