Location: Noah’s Ark, The Exterminator and Ghostwood Estates at Kennywood Park, West MifflinFeatured guests: Taylor Bulischeck, director of marketing for Kennywood Park3 things that surprised me:1. Taylor led me underneath Noah’s Ark to show me the mechanism that powers the rocking boat. The
re were wheels and gears moving a giant mechanical arm that rhythmically shifted the boat back and forth. Though nearly every part of it has been updated over the years, this is the same machinery that’s been powering Noah’s Ark since it opened in 1936. There used to be Noah’s Ark attractions like this at amusement parks across the world, but this is the only one still in operation.2. Walking into the queuing area for The Exterminator, Taylor pointed out a corner full of electrical cabinets and fuse boxes. While these serve as decor at the fictional Kennyville Electric Co. today, they were sourced from decommissioned steel mills in the area.3. Taylor pointed out some Easter eggs as we walked through Ghostwood Estates. The spider lurking in the Ghostwood Estate library actually came from the old Gold Rusher attraction that was located in the same area of the park from 1981 to 2007.One thing that didn’t make the final cut: All the theming and props in Ghostwood Estate were created by Halloween Productions, the same company responsible for Garfield’s Nightmare, the former iteration of The Old Mill.Additional info: Do you know what is the oldest building at Kennywood?
