LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- A sergeant with the Lafayette Fire Department died in the line of duty Monday.
According to a news release, Sgt. John Robinson passed away while he was on duty after he was found unresponsive at Lafayette Fire Station 9. He was 53 years old.

LFD said Robinson served with the fire department for nearly 30 years. He is survived by his wife Melissa and daughters Ava and Reece.
"Our entire department is grieving the loss of one of our own," said Lafayette Fire Chief Brian Alkire. "We extend our deepest condolences to the family of Sergeant Robinson and ask the community to join us in honoring the memory of this brave firefighter, who gave everything in service to others."
As of this article's publication, the Tippecanoe County Coroner's Office has not revealed the exact manner and cause of death.
LFD said it was working closely with the Indiana Fire Marshal's Office, the National Firefighters Association and IAFF as funeral arrangements are made. ...read more read less
