INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Tech company NVIDIA is set to manufacture AI supercomputers entirely in the United States for the first time.
The California-based company announced the move Monday.
NVIDIA, in collaboration with other tech partners, has commissioned over a million square feet of manu
facturing space to produce NVIDIA Blackwell chips in Arizona and AI supercomputers in Texas.
Jensen Huang, founder and CEO of NVIDIA, said in a release this initiative will help the country meet the growing demand for AI chips and computers.
“The engines of the world’s AI infrastructure are being built in the United States for the first time,” Huang said. “Adding American manufacturing helps us better meet the incredible and growing demand for AI chips and supercomputers, strengthens our supply chain and boosts our resiliency.”
NVIDIA Blackwell chips were previously manufactured in Taiwan at a Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company plant. They have already started production at TSMC’s chip plants in Phoenix, Arizona. Other supercomputer manufacturing plants are also being developed in Houston and Dallas.
Mass production at these facilities is expected to ramp up over the next 12 to 15 months.
NVIDIA says it plans to produce up to half a trillion dollars of AI infrastructure in the United States within the next four years.
