2 Fort Wayne men charged with murder in 2017 killing

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - Two Fort Wayne men were formally charged with murder Monday, early eight years after a man's homicide.
Both 26-year-old Carlos Ellis and 27-year-old Tavon Underwood face charges of murder, fel
ony murder and attempted robbery in connection to a fatal shooting on Aug. 3, 2017.
Officers with the Fort Wayne Police Department responded to a local apartment complex that evening on reports of a hit-and-run and shots fired.
Nicholas Hennan, 36, was found in a car that had crashed into a tree. He was pronounced dead from gunshot wounds.
Through witness accounts, police determined both Ellis and Underwood allegedly shot at Hennan as his car drove into the tree, according to Allen Superior Court documents.
After the shooting, Underwood is accused of calling someone and telling them, "I caught my first body," according to court documents.
In March 2025, phone records and further DNA evidence led to charges being filed. ...read more read less
