SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (WPRI) – Testimony is set to resume Monday morning in the trial of Aaron Thomas, a former high school coach accused of child molestation and sexual assault.
Thomas, who coached boys’ basketball at North Kingstown High School for nearly 30 years, has pleaded not guilty an
d is in the second week of the trial against him.
As of Friday, prosecutors had called 13 of their 20 witnesses, as they try to prove Thomas inappropriately touched underage students while they were naked and alone with him for a fat-testing program.
Former students say there weren’t permission slips for naked fat tests
Thomas, who created the program, began testing students in the 1990s and an estimated 600 former students went through the program.
His attorneys argued that the testing program had merit, and while potentially inappropriate, Thomas’ behavior was not criminal. After the prosecution rests, the defense attorneys are expected to call five to seven witnesses, including Thomas himself.
So far, the jury has heard from several former students who said they went through the testing programs beginning in 1995, and that it made them feel uncomfortable and embarrassed. A former student who started high school in 1999 had his testimony cut short when court ended on Friday.
He’s expected to resume being questioned and be open to cross-examination on Monday.

The prosecution will also call to the stand medical professionals who are expected to refute the idea that anybody needs to be naked for a body-fat test.
Testimony was scheduled to resume at 10 a.m. Monday.
