PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WPRI) — The grandstands at McCoy Stadium started to come down Monday morning.
Construction crews have been tearing down the former home of the Pawtucket Red Sox to make space for a new 375,000 square-foot learning space that will combine the two high schools in the city.

The stadium has sat vacant for the past few years after the PawSox moved to Worcester in 2021.
Just last week, officials broke ground on the city's new high school. The $326 million project will be home to more than 2,000 students.
It will boast a brand new career and technical center and a “marketplace” for community engagement.
The district plans to honor the former McCoy Stadium during the construction process and after.
Construction is expected to be completed by 2028.
