Person shot, killed in basketball fight at North Carolina rec center

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WNCN) — Police in Fayetteville are investigating a deadly Sunday afternoon shooting at a recreation center.
The shooting just before 5 p.m. left a man dead at College Lakes Recreation Center, at 4945 Rosehill Road, near McArthur Road, according to the Fayetteville Police Dep
artment.
The shooting happened inside the recreation center, police said.
Officers told CBS 17 that the shooting happened during an "altercation" that developed while people inside were playing basketball.
"Detectives with the Fayetteville Police Department’s Homicide Unit are actively investigating this homicide," police said in a news release Sunday evening.

Officers did not mention a suspect.
Several Fayetteville police officers were visible, and at least eight police cruisers were parked outside the recreation center, which is owned by the city of Fayetteville.
Crime scene tape was also up outside the center, which includes basketball courts, a fitness center, a gymnasium, and a swimming pool.
Police said they are investigating what led up to the altercation that triggered the shooting.
No information has been released about the person who was shot.
"The identity of the victim is being withheld pending notification of next of kin," police said.
