KERNERSVILLE, N.C. (WGHP) — A new video shared by the Winston-Salem Fire Department shows another angle of the fire that started at a Kernersville recycling plant on Sunday.
At 3:54 p.m. Sunday, the Kernersville Fire Rescue Department responded to a fire at the metal recycling facility OmniSour
ce Corporation on West Mountain Street and found a large scrap file burning, which spread to a nearby conveyor belt structure.
The size of the fire required a multi-agency response, including firefighters from Winston-Salem, Piney Grove, Walkertown and the Forsyth County Fire Department.
One firefighter was taken to a local hospital for evaluation. No other injuries to firefighters or civilians have been reported.
There is no threat of the fire spreading to surrounding areas. There are also no hazards or health concerns for the public at this time.
Another video taken on Sunday shows a large plume of black smoke from the fire visible from a residential area.
In a news release on Monday morning, the Kernersville Fire Rescue Department confirmed the large smoke plume and stated that Forsyth County Emergency Management is conducting air quality monitoring and addressing water runoff concerns.
Crews are still operating in a defensive strategy due to the size and intensity of the fire.
The public is still asked to avoid the area.
