The City of South Fulton continues its commitment to reducing gun violence and improving public safety with the successful completion of its 4th Annual Community Gun Buyback event, held Saturday, April 12, at the Butner Road Shopping Center Plaza.
Sponsored by Councilmember Carmalitha Gumbs in partn
ership with the South Fulton Police Department, the three-hour event gave residents the opportunity to turn in unwanted firearms — no questions asked, no ID required, and no photos taken—in exchange for gift cards worth up to $75 based on the condition of the firearm.
By the end of the morning, 37 guns were voluntarily turned in by community members. Combined with dozens of firearms previously confiscated by South Fulton Police, more than 75 guns were destroyed in total as part of the city’s broader violence prevention initiative.
“This is what community action looks like,” said Councilmember Carmalitha Gumbs. “Together we can build a safer community for all.”
The event was also attended by Goodwill Ambassador Dr. Travis Barber, who joined community leaders in encouraging residents to take part in making South Fulton safer.
Though the event has concluded, Councilmember Gumbs and South Fulton Police want residents to know the opportunity to safely surrender firearms remains available. Individuals may still receive a gift card of up to $75 by turning in a firearm at any South Fulton police precinct.
