MANHATTAN, KS. (KSNT) - K-State senior golfer Carla Bernat received an opportunity unlike any other...and made the most of it.
Last week, Bernat won the Augusta National Women's Amateur, played at the home of The Masters. The Castellon, Spain native joined K-Nation to discuss the win, the celebra
tion and the pageantry of the world-acclaimed golf course.
Bernat had K-State assistant golf coach Rinko Mitsunaga as her caddie at Augusta National. The decision was Bernat's choice.
"I really liked having [Mitsunaga] for the tournament, it's the kind of tournament where you have to feel comfortable," Bernat said. "Giving the importance the tournament has...she does a great job of reminding me who I am."
Mitsunaga said it was the opportunity of a lifetime to walk the greens at the home of The Masters, but being alongside Bernat made it extra special.
"I got teary-eyed the night before, because it was just a full-circle moment for us," Mitsunaga said. "We've been with [Bernat] for four years. There's obviously been a lot of up and downs with her career, together. It's bittersweet because she's going into the real world now."
Bernat also discussed the biggest stars that reached out after her win, including legendary Spanish athletes Rafael Nadal and Pau Gasol.
The full interview with Bernat and Mitsunaga aired in Sunday’s episode of K-Nation and can be watched above. K-Nation airs every Sunday night following 27 News at 10, only on KSNT. ...read more read less
