Police catch, then release turkey that had trotted into Indiana supermarket

GRANGER, Ind. (WISH) — How did a wild turkey trot into a northern Indiana grocery store?
St. Joseph County Police Department on Thursday afternoon responded to the report and found the gobbler atop shelves of medications in the pharmacy section of the Martin’s Supermarket off State Road 2
3.
The department has shared its bodycam footage of the turkey’s capture and release on its Facebook page. The video showed many boxes of medication scattered on the store’s floor while the turkey stood in a corner on the shelves.
The video is slowed down as Officer Kyle O’Konski grabs the turkey by its legs, and its wings start flying. He then walks the bird from the store and releases it into a nearby forested area.
The Facebook post joked O’Konski is “now certified in poultry negotiations!”
It wasn’t exactly clear how the turkey got into the store. Perhaps police could check store surveillance footage next?
The post summed up the unusual police response as “no harm, no fowl.”
