Burleigh County, N.D. (KXNET)- When you call the police, you expect them to show up in 30 minutes or less. But one sheriff's deputy in Burleigh County says one recent call was memorable no matter how you slice it.
After four years, Burleigh County Deputy Zach Bugbee knows better than to predict wh
at will happen on a patrol shift.
"That's definitely one of the appeals to this job, no two days are the same," Bugbee said.
That was the case the night of April 4th when he got a request to help out another deputy.
"He made a traffic stop for a violation and was doing a roadside investigation. He needed my assistance with some of the capabilities that I have.
Bugbee is a K-9 officer, paired up with Pallo. Another deputy asked Bugbee and the dog to take a closer look during a stop when that deputy suspected a woman behind the wheel may have been using drugs.
"And that eventually led to an arrest. After that arrest was when we realized she was trying to deliver pizzas as well," Bugbee said.
With a woman soon heading in to be booked, that meant either Bugbee or the other deputy had one more stop to make.
"I said, 'Hey, do you want to deliver this? You can have it, it's your stop. You can deliver this if you want to. And he said, 'no man, go for it, go ahead.' I grabbed the pizzas and looked at the address they were supposed to go to," Bugbee said.
Video shared by Burleigh County shows deputy Bugbee arriving at the pizzas' destination.
Bugbee admits the person at the door tried tipping him. "But as a professional courtesy, obviously I didn't take their money," Bugbee said.
What Bugbee did receive that night was a positive message on social media thanking him.
"The social capital is great. We're grateful to be able to work and serve in a community that is so appreciative of our service. Each person who comes up to us and says, 'hey, thank you for your service,' I always tell them, thank you for your support," Bugbee said.
Bugbee says the remainder of his shift that evening was relatively uneventful. But he says he's glad the family in this case didn't mind that their order was late.
The woman arrested was charged with two misdemeanor counts of driving under suspension and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. ...read more read less
