Apr 13, 2025
TEANECK — Joe Tiroly smacked a pair of three-run homers as part of a 7-RBI game in the second game of a doubleheader and the Rider University baseball team beat Manhattan, 7-4, to complete a crucial sweep on Sunday afternoon.
The Broncs (21-9, 12-5) won the the first game, 5-0, as Brian Young pitc
hed into the seventh inning to improve to 6-0 on the season. Tiroly had an RBI single in that game as well to give him eight RBIs on the day.
His two longballs in the second game upped his total to a MAAC-leading 14.
Gavin Hawkes fanned six over six scoreless innings of relief in the second game.
Rider kept pace with leaders Fairfield (26-8, 13-2) and Quinnipiac (19-14-1, 13-5), both of which swept three-game series this weekend. Because the Broncs’ set with Manhattan (11-21, 6-11) was limited to just two games, the final standings may be determined by winning percentage since teams will have played an unequal number of games.
