CHINCOTEAGUE, Va. (WAVY) -- Chincoteague Mayor Denise Bowden was severely injured while letting a herd of horses out of a corral on Friday. According to the Chincoteague Volunteer Fire Company, Bowden's leg was badly injured after "letting the southern herd out of the corral." She was taken to Shock Trauma in Baltimore, where she underwent surgery. The surgery went well, but there is "still a very very long recovery."
