Man arrested for murdering his father in Silverville, Indiana
SILVERVILLE, Ind. (WISH) — A man has been arrested on a preliminary charge of murder after fatally shooting his father Friday night in rural Lawrence County, the sheriff’s office reports.
Chad McMaken, 47, was found dead with a
gunshot wound.
A 911 caller reported a shooting about 8:30 p.m. Friday at a home in the 200 block of State Road 158. That’s about a 20-minute drive west of the county seat, the city of Bedford.
Based on information from the 911 call, investigators think Kameron McMaken shot his father during an argument. The 22-year-old was at the shooting scene, and deputies took him into custody.
A social media post from the sheriff’s office said Lawrence County detectives and command staff conducted multiple interviews with witnesses through the night. Judge Nathan Nikirk of Lawrence Circuit Court issued search warrants, and investigators collected the firearm believed to have been used in the shooting.
Kameron was booked into the Lawrence County Jail in Bedford around 7 a.m. Saturday. The Lawrence County sheriff’s app shows that in addition to murder, he’s also facing preliminary charges of aggravated battery, criminal recklessness, and pointing a firearm as an instrument of violence. No formal court case was listed online Sunday.
Lawrence County, which has 45,000 residents, is about a 90-minute drive south-southeast of downtown Indianapolis.
