Astronomical Society enjoys special daytime view of sun

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Colorado Springs Astronomical Society brought the sun a little closer to stargazing enthusiasts on Saturday, April 12, at the Cheyenne Mountain State Park during an event called Sun-day on a Saturday.
From 9 a.m. to noon, at the Limekiln trailhead, local astronomers set
up special telescopes for a rare daytime look at our nearest star, the sun.
Members of the club said they had ideal conditions on Saturday because the sun is at solar maximum, meaning it's in the most active and fiery phase, making it the perfect time to catch incredible views of sunspots, solar flares, and more.
"To get involved, join our club, it's just $30 for a family membership," said David Warner of the Colorado Springs Astronomical Society. "We can be found at CSastro.org, as well as our Colorado Springs Astronomical Society Facebook page, and we have listed there all of our events on the calendar, where you can see where we are going to be. So you can come out and look through our telescopes at the amazing things to see in the night sky."
The next Sun-day on a Saturday is May 3 at the Space Foundation Discovery Center, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Members of the club say people should come for the views; stay for the stellar vibes. ...read more read less
