San Antonio wraps up their season at home against Toronto Welcome to the Game Thread. Veterans of the Game Thread know how we do things around here, but for all you newbies we have a few rules. Our community guidelines apply and basically say
be cool, no personal attacks, don’t troll and don’t swear too much.
It’s been a long season, and today it ends, not with a meaningful game, but with a contest between two teams that have been reduced to league irrelevance for quite some time. The Spurs made some news a few games ago when they beat the Warriors to scramble the Western Conference standings, but followed up that inspiring effort with a lackluster effort against the plummeting Suns as they were blown out 117-98 after sitting everybody in the second half.
The Spurs have locked up the eighth spot in the NBA Draft Lottery, and can’t move up or down based on what happens this afternoon. The Raptors are similarly locked in seventh, and neither team has any kind of stake in wining or losing today. That doesn’t mean that the players won’t play hard, because everyone who gets on the court today has something to prove. The Raptors have eight players out today, including Immanuel Quickly and RJ Barret who are resting up for … the offseason? Expect a quick paced game today with a lot of highlights and some lowlights. Chris Paul will start his 82nd game of the season, becoming an iron man at age 39. Even if he doesn’t come back next year, he’s left an indelible mark on the franchise, and has be an incredible mentor for Stephon Castle, which is something that all Spurs fans can be grateful for. After today, the next significant dates for the Silver and Black will be the lottery on May 12, and the draft on June 25-26. Let’s enjoy the final bit of game action for the Spurs today, and count the wow plays by Castle. Let’s go Spurs!
Well, we’ve reached the end, my friends, and all that is left is bitter dregs:
Game Prediction:
Adam Silver will be at the game and will present the Rookie of the Year trophy to Stephon Castle at halftime.
GO SPURS GOOOO!!!
