HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- The National Wheelchair Basketball Association (NWBA) Adult Championships had their final day of games on Sunday.
The championships took place at the Henrico Sports Events Center in Glen Allen from Friday, April 11 to Sunday, April 13.
Hosted by the NWBA, Sportable,
Richmond Region Tourism and Henrico Sports Entertainment Authority, the teams ranked in the top 16 for each of the three Adult Divisions will receive an invitation to the national tournament applying to their division.
Additionally, there were several players inducted into the NWBA Hall of Fame on Saturday night, to honor longtime advocates and participants within the world of wheelchair basketball.
8News got the chance to speak with Jeremy "Opie" Lade, a Paralympic wheelchair basketball player and head coach from Oconto, Wisconsin, about his recent induction into the NWBA Hall of Fame and what this community means to him.
"I just feel really blessed to have a great community. Not only my family and all of the people that have been a part of this since the beginning, but this wheelchair basketball world -- I've had great teammates, great coaches, and I think we just have a solid, solid community," Lade said. "I'm the recipient of getting inducted into the hall of fame because of being around great people all my life."
