RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- The American Heart Association (AHA) held the Richmond Heart Ball on Saturday, raising $1.3 million to help shed a light on the impact of heart disease.
Emceed by 8News' very own Matt DiNardo for the third year in a row, the Heart Ball took place at Main Street Station from
6 to 11 p.m. on Saturday, April 12.
The $1.3 million raised will go toward the work that the AHA does to help conduct research and raise awareness for heart disease.
8News got the chance to speak with Richmond Heart Ball chair Terrence Kerner about what this event means to him.
"Cardiovascular disease and stroke has affected my family, but also, I'm in the construction industry I see our workers our tradespeople that are more at risk for cardiovascular disease, long hours, stressful, perhaps not the best nutrition, tobacco use perhaps," Kerner said. "So we want to bring awareness to it and you know, just help them see if there's a way that they can improve what they're up against."
