(PUEBLO, Colo.) — A boy in Pueblo turned five years old on Saturday, April 12, and all he wanted for his birthday was to see some cool cars. Thanks to kind community members, that wish came true. Hundreds of locals gathered to show off their sweet rides by driving past Bryson's house.
Bryson wa
s born with spine cancer, and now, five years later, he is still fighting the hard battle, which is why the community wanted to make sure the car toys he plays with every day turned into a life-sized display.
"Happy birthday, Bryson! Mommy loves you, you're the joy in my life, I'm so happy to have you," said Bryson's mom, Sarah Jimenez.
Saturday was a big day for the birthday boy, as the whole thing was a surprise.
"Just wanted to say happy birthday. You're truly an inspiration, and I'm just really thankful to be a part of this," said Dylan Reed, a community member who drove past on his motorcycle.
His love for cars began a few years ago, and ever since, it has been all he wants to learn about. "He likes anything that has wheels; he doesn't care what it is, if it has wheels, he likes it," says Jimenez.
His mom reached out to the community for help to make it all happen.
"So we said, heck yeah, everybody was very interested, so here we are," said Vincent Malley, another person who participated in the event.
Even the FOX21 Storm Squatch made a special appearance.
"I honestly thought maybe 15 or 20 people would come, but when we pulled into the parking lot and saw no parking spaces, it was just completely full, it left me at a loss for words," said Reed.
But the fun didn't stop there; many of the community members also brought him presents. "They don't even know him, and they still paid with their own money to bring him presents, to show him love, to decorate their cars," said Jimenez.
Unfortunately, life has not always been as fun as the birthday party for the young race car driver. "He is a special boy, and everybody sees that and they don't even know him," said Jimenez.
At just eight months old, he was diagnosed with cancer, and even though he is still fighting it, his mom says it is not spreading or life-threatening at this point.
"Anybody that goes through that, we're 100% behind. We just want to show him some love and some support by driving by," said Reed.
