Family displaced after fire ignites in Potomac home's garage

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. (DC News Now) -- A family is without a place to live after a fire broke out in the garage of a Potomac home early Sunday.
Pete Piringer with the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service said crews responded to the garage fire at a single-family home in Piney Meetinghouse
Court, near River Road, around 4:30 a.m.
A smoke alarm alerted the residents to the fire, and they safely escaped.

In a social media post just before 6:30 a.m., Piringer said crews had extinguished the flames. He noted that around 50 firefighters aided at the scene.

Upon further investigation, officials learned that the fire was accidental and originated from a wall outlet charging an electric vehicle in the garage. The car was damaged by the fire but was otherwise not involved, Piringer added.
No one was injured; however, fire officials said the blaze left about $80,000 in damages, and the two adult residents were displaced. ...read more read less
