MADERA COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - Two men were arrested after a shots-fired call in Chowchilla led to an investigation and ultimately the discovery of over $320,000 worth of weed vape cartridges, the Madera County Sheriff's Office announced Saturday.
On April 2, deputies say they responded to a
shots fired call in the area of Avenue 24 and Road 26 in Chowchilla. The suspect vehicle was located by Chowchilla Police and the occupants were detained.
As they were being detained, deputies reported locating a firearm on one of the suspects not registered to them. The Madera County Sheriff’s Office Special Enforcement Team (MADSET) took over the investigation.
As detectives served several search warrants at the subject's residences, they reported discovering an illegal weed cartridge dispensary operating near Chowchilla High School.
MADSET reported ultimately seizing more than 8,000 weed cartridges, with a street value exceeding $320,000, along with three firearms and further evidence of narcotics sales.
Deputies say a 34-year-old Madera man and a 31-year-old Chowchilla man were arrested on suspicion of charges related to this case.
This investigation is ongoing and anyone with information regarding this case is asked to contact MADSET Detectives at 559-675-7770.
“This case is a clear example of how illegal marijuana operations often go hand-in-hand with guns and violence. The fact that this illegal dispensary was operating near a school is concerning. I commend our deputies and the Chowchilla Police Department for their swift action. We will continue to target those who put profits over public safety— especially when our children are at risk,” said Madera County Sheriff Tyson Pogue. ...read more read less
