IMPD, Indy Thunder face off in game of beep ball
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Taking the phrase “justice is blind” a bit too literally, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers played a charity game of baseball blind.
The game is called beep ball: A version of baseball for people w
ho are blind and visually impaired. Players try and hit a ball that makes a noise and race to bases that buzz. Officers played against the Indy Thunder, a blind and visually impaired team that plays beep ball. Everyone, including the officers, wore blindfolds to level the playing field.
The Indy Thunder, who are five-time beep ball champions, won 13-8. IMPD Captain Shane Foley hopes this will become an annual rivalry.
“You don’t know what to expect, don’t really understand the game,” Foley said. “I learned a lot about how the game is played, how well the Indy Thunder did. I watched their games in las Vegas when they won the tournament a few weeks ago. It’s really exciting to see them represent Indianapolis and play them today.”
