With the 25th in the Pride of Detroit Community Mock Draft, the Houston Texans select... Our commenters are continuing to shine in our 2025 Pride of Detroit Community Mock Draft—where we replace NFL general managers with members from our com
munity.
We’re getting pretty close to the Detroit Lions’ pick, as the Houston Texans are on the clock with the 25th pick in the mock. The Texans are suddenly relevant in a challenging AFC, but they still haven’t quite jumped to the level of the Chiefs/Bills/Ravens tier. The_ville_lions is hoping to change that by acting as Texans general manager in this mock draft.
Before we get into the pick, you can see how the previous 24 picks have gone by checking out our 2025 Pride of Detroit Community Mock Draft tracker.
With the 25th pick in the POD Community Mock Draft, the Houston Texans have selected...
Luther Burden, wide receiver out of Missouri.
Here’s the_ville_lions with the reasoning;
I’m going to be completely honest, I was hoping that one of the stud offensive lineman would fall to the Texans here, but both Tyler Booker and Kelvin Banks were off the board. With those two being gone, luckily our next position of need matched up well with where the value was on the board. The Texans have a Stefon Diggs sized hole on the depth chart opposite of Nico Collins. Not to mention that it doesn’t seem that any Texans WR can stay healthy. The Texans did trade for Christian Kirk this offseason, who should do well in the slot, but are still in need of some help on the outside.
What are the Texans getting in Luther Burden? First, they’re getting great value if he can return to his sophomore production. He was plagued by inconsistent QB play during his junior campaign. Luther would be a top-15 pick if he replicated his sophomore stats during his junior season. Burden has great speed, running a 4.41 at the combine at 6-foot and 206 pounds. Burden has inside/outside versatility, which is exactly what the Texans are needing with a WR room that has trouble staying healthy. He can fill in the Y or Z role in this offense if Tank Dell or Christian Kirk end up on the IR.
In short, with the top O-lineman off the board, Texans are getting great value at a position of need. He gives Quarterback C.J. Stroud another weapon in an offense that loves to spread the ball around. We will be hoping that some offensive line talent drops to the second round so we can shore up the offensive line to protect Stroud. That just wasn’t where the value lined up in the first round.
