Suspect arrested, bystander shot in the crossfire, Fresno Police say

FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A bystander was shot after being caught in the crossfire between two shooters Tuesday night, the Fresno Police Department said.
Just before midnight on Tuesday, officers say they responded to the area of Valeria and Grant avenues in Fresno regarding a 15-round ShotS
potter activation. Police say they also received an additional call for service regarding a gunshot victim at a residence in the area.
On scene, officers say they found two unoccupied vehicles struck by gunfire as well as numerous spent casings in front of two residences. Inside one of the homes, police found a man suffering from a gunshot wound; he was transported to CRMC, where he was listed in stable condition.
According to investigators, video surveillance revealed that the suspect, later identified as Jacob Castro, began firing at an unknown man walking in the area. Police say the unknown man returned gunfire in self-defense, ultimately leading to the bystander being struck by return gunfire.
The police department says the unknown male victim fled the area, but Castro remained on the scene and was arrested. He was booked into the Fresno County Jail on suspicion of firing a weapon at an unoccupied vehicle/uninhabited building, being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, being a convicted felon in possession of ammunition, carrying a loaded firearm in public, and assault with a firearm. ...read more read less
