BismarckBurleigh Public Health worker named 2024 Hunger Relief Champion

BISMARCK, ND (KXNET) — Katie Johnke, the nutrition and health promotion coordinator with Bismarck-Burleigh Public Health (BBPH), has been named the 2024 Hunger Relief Champion by the Great Plains Food Bank.
The Hunger Relief Champion Awards recognize people who demonstrate leadership, generosit
y, and dedication as they fight to end hunger. The people who receive the award embody the passion, service, and innovation needed to make contributions toward making North Dakota hunger-free.
Johnke played a key role in developing healthcare programs and launching the Wellness Pantry at BBPH in March 2020. The pantry has provided 11,909 pounds of food to 858 people.

In a press release, the City of Bismarck says her work "demonstrates a deep commitment to supporting neighbors and continuously finds ways to support the movement to end hunger."
“I’m truly humbled to receive the Hunger Relief Champion Award," Johnke said in a press release. "It’s a reflection of the incredible collaboration happening across our community. None of this work happens alone, and I’m so grateful to be in it alongside so many dedicated people.”
Johnke's award will be presented by the CEO of the Great Plains Food Bank, along with other staff members, on Thursday, April 17 at 11 a.m.
