FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - The 24-year-old man who died after he was found shot multiple times in the backyard of a central Fresno home was named by the Fresno Police Department.
The death of 24-year-old Taylor Washington is Fresno's fifth homicide of the year.
According to Lieutenant Paul C
ervantez, officers responded to a ShotSpotter alert and found Taylor Washington injured in a backyard. He was taken to Community Regional Medical Center, where he died about an hour later.
Investigators say Washington had been walking on foot in the area of South Bardell Avenue. Police say he did not have any known connection to the residence where he was found and no one called 911 at the time of the shooting. A 911 call was made when the victim arrived in the backyard of the home.
Cervantez says 32 rounds were fired during the incident, hitting three parked cars but no homes. Officials believe Washington was not alone and was accompanied by another individual who has not yet come forward.
“This investigation is one that strikes the heart,” said Cervantez. “Nobody should be the victim of a crime like this.”
Washington was identified by police as a known gang member with a prior criminal history. Officers believe the shooting is gang-related, but not necessarily gang-motivated.
At this time last year, Fresno had recorded eight homicides, according to Cervantez. Fresno Police are urging anyone with information to come forward. ...read more read less
