WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) -- A suspected shoplifter fleeing Walmart security was struck by a car on Kellogg Friday, police said. Sedgwick County dispatchers tell KSN that one person has potentially critical injuries.
"Officers working a secondary employment assignment at the Walmart in the 6500 block
of West Kellogg were alerted to a possible shoplifting incident," WPD said in a news release. "Upon making contact with the suspected individuals, the male fled the scene on foot, heading south toward Kellogg.
An officer initiated a foot pursuit but discontinued the chase prior to entering the highway. The suspect continued across Kellogg and was subsequently struck by a vehicle."
The westbound lanes of Kellogg, U.S. 54, at Interstate 235 were closed for several hours as police investigated the scene.
