SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) -- Nobody likes going to the dentist, but we know it's one of the best ways to keep our teeth and smile looking great. But unfortunately, not all families can afford dental care, and that's why a dental clinic in Sioux Falls is stepping up to help.
Saturday, Dakota Dental
will host what's called 'Free Dental Day'.
LIST: $9.1M in federal spending cuts in SD
"Free Dental Day was really kind of a pipe dream of mine that I had for years and years and one year I just decided to speak it out loud to my staff, I said hey this something I'm thinking about, something I've been toddling with doing and they were like all in immediately," Dr. Jackie Schuler said.
It'll be their third year of hosting Free Dental Day, but it'll be Tessa Tecklenburg's first year helping out.
"The whole team all year has been talking about how excited they are for free dental day it's a really good chance for us to help a lot of people in need, so I'm really excited to be a part of that," Tecklenburg said.
The patients, who have already been identified and pre-selected by agencies around Sioux Falls, will receive a full dental exam, cleaning and x-rays, but that's not all.
"And then they will come to the doctor's schedule where we will take care of their most pertinent dental need, so whatever is causing them pain that day or the area of deepest decay, the area of worse disease that we are going to try and take care of it for them that day," Dr. Schuler said.
Schuler says it's a day everyone looks forward to.
"It's the greatest day, my staff will show up tomorrow and will be ready to work," Dr. Schuler said.
But they know it's going to be a long day.
"I heard I'm going to need to get some good sleep the night before, but it's going to be a really good feeling at the end of the day," Dr. Tecklenburg said.
"It's a day everyone smiles," Dr. Schuler said.
They'll be treating 30 patients tomorrow, but, the appointments are already filled. ...read more read less
