APPLETON, Wis. (WFRV) - A local treasure hunt is making waves across northeast Wisconsin, thanks to a YouTube diving star and his fiancée.
Ed Bieber, better known online as “Ed the Diver,” and his fiancée Christie Barlament are turning a classic Easter tradition into a feel-good community e
vent with a bigger message: it’s all about cleaning up the waterways while searching for prize-filled eggs.

The couple launched the unique Easter egg hunt across various spots in the region, placing colorful eggs near rivers, lakes, and streams. Inside each egg is a mix of fishing lures, gift cards, cash, and thousands of dollars worth of donations from local businesses.
“We do a lot of cleanups around the Midwest and a lot of businesses love the content we push out, showing people what they can do for the community to keep it clean,” said Bieber. “It's nice that these small businesses see it and they support us, and we can help support them also.”
Each egg is carefully placed close to water, encouraging participants to find treasure, then pick up and clean trash nearby.
Barlament said they originally planned a small-scale event for kids and families, but the idea quickly took off.
“We typically do lure hunts for kids and families, and we decided with Easter coming, we'd do a fun Easter egg hunt,” Barlament said. “We were going to put lures and just some cash in there, but we wanted to up the game and make it fun for everybody.”
With the help of downtown Green Bay businesses and community members, the couple raised more than $3,000 in donated prizes in just 48 hours.
Participants have been quick to jump in on the fun, sometimes quite literally. Matt Piontkowski from Neenah was one of the lucky winners, thanks to a little help from his son.
“I come fishing down here all the time and we were close by, so I figured I'd give it a shot,” he said. “Little man went closer to the water and it was sitting next to a rock. Finding it is going to be a memory that lasts for a long time.”
The Easter egg hunt will run through Easter Sunday, with the final two eggs, silver and gold, containing the most valuable prizes yet. One includes a $500 dinner for four at Bistro Buchanan.

“Hopefully someday we can do this again and up it, with a lot more money, a lot more prizes, and make it a little more fun too,” Bieber said.
All are welcome to join in the hunt, no scuba gear required—just a good eye, a sense of adventure, and maybe a trash bag to help clean up along the way. ...read more read less
