MINOT, ND (KXNET) — Acting Minot Mayor Mark Jantzer has announced that he is running in the special election called for by voters after the resignation of former mayor Tom Ross.
In a statement, Jantzer emphasizes his experience in office as a reason voters should choose him to finish Ross' term
.
“I feel that the voters deserve to be able to choose a candidate who is a steady, proven leader with experience in the operation of Minot’s government," Jantzer said in a press release. "My time on the Council since 2008 as well as other community leadership roles on Task Force 21 and several boards of directors have taught me how to lead collaboratively and effectively. I believe I am a good fit to complete the vacant term.”
Jantzer is currently President of the Minot City Council and Acting Mayor of Minot, since the resignation of Ross on April 1.
Special Minot mayoral election verified: Next steps, mayoral candidacy requirements
Ross stepped down after an investigative report showed that he inadvertently sent a sexually explicit video of himself to Minot City Attorney Stefanie Stalheim. To read our full story on that report, click here.
Jantzer is one of two who have recently announced their candidacy for the vacant mayoral seat, the other being Minot resident, Josiah Royce.
Candidates who run for mayor in the special election must gather 300 signatures and have them verified in order to be put on the ballot. Candidates cannot start collecting signatures until 94 days before the special election date, which has not yet been set. They will then have a 30-day window to get those signatures.
Whichever candidate is elected, will serve out the remainder of Ross's term, which ends in June of 2026.
