BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) -- A local mother talked about the hospitalization of her daughter after a Denham Springs hit-and-run crash on March 29 left her with serious injuries.
Holly Crow is fighting for justice as her 20-year-old daughter remains in critical condition at Our Lady of t
he Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge. Jody Mann was walking home from a friend's house when she was hit around 9 p.m. on Louisiana Highway 1023, south of Highway 63. Crow said she was following her daughter on the tracking app Life 360.
"It was 8:39 p.m. when she stopped moving, at 8:49 is when I called the police," Crow said.
Louisiana State Police discovered Mann's damaged body around 9 p.m. Louisiana First News Anchor Christina Jensen went to the scene of the crime to discover marks on the road from investigators were still visible. Markings revealed the point of impact and where her blood landed.
"I didn't know what to think. I was worried, scared, and mad all of the feelings," said Crow.
Investigators told Crow that video footage showed the alleged driver, Brandon Chenevert, going back to the crime scene. He was arrested on April 2. He bonded out of jail the next day.
"It makes me so angry, and it's an anger I've never felt in my entire life," Crow said.
Chenevert is now facing a long list of charges, which include felony hit and run and obstruction of justice. Court records also revealed the suspect has a lengthy criminal history dating back to 2014. Charges he has faced for past crimes include careless operation of a car, drunk driving and simple assault.
"People shouldn't just be able to get out and do these things over and over again," Crow said.
Meanwhile, Crow's daughter remains in the hospital, tethered to a ventilator.
"She had a busted bladder, a lacerated liver, a dissected kidney, and her other kidney is severely bruised. I'm just hoping and praying that she does pull through this; she's really strong," Crow said.
Chenevert reportedly does not have car insurance, so the family is paying for their own medical expenses. A GoFundMe has been created to help them. Click here to donate.
