Union City teen arrested in San Jose Farm Drive homicide
Apr 11, 2025
(KRON) -- Just two days before a 15-year-old Redwood City boy was stabbed to death on Valentine's Day along Santana Row in San Jose, a 19-year-old man was shot to death on the city's south side. Police said both killings were carried out by suspected gang members.
The February 12 homicide happened
in broad daylight just after 2 p.m. on Farm Drive, police said. The 19-year-old homicide victim's name was Juan Barrera, the Mercury News reported.
Detectives pieced together clues through surveillance videos indicating that the Farm Drive shooting "was likely gang motivated," police wrote. "Utilizing automated license plate reader cameras and other investigative techniques, detectives identified the primary suspects as Nathaniel Henderson and Antonio Perez," San Jose Police Department Sgt. Jorge Garibay wrote.
Henderson is a 19-year-old Union City resident. Perez is a 20-year-old San Jose resident. On Wednesday, SJPD Street Crimes Unit officers apprehended the duo and both men were booked into a Santa Clara County jail on murder charges. Henderson and Perez are scheduled to make their first court appearances Friday afternoon.
Barrera's death marked San Jose's second homicide of 2025.
The first homicide of the year happened on January 11 and was also gang-motivated, police said. Alejandro Martinez Vasquez, 27, was shot to death by a group of "ruthless" gang members who drove around the city searching for rivals, according to investigators. Six men, who police say are Norteno gang members, have been charged with murdering Martinez Vasquez.
San Jose's third homicide of 2025, on February 14, was allegedly carried out by a 13-year-old boy, according to police. David S. Gutierrez, 15, was on a Valentine's Date with his girlfriend on Santana Row when he was attacked by a group of Sureno gang members, police said. Detectives said the group mistakenly thought Gutierrez was a rival. The youngest boy in the group stabbed Gutierrez in the heart, killing him, the victim's family members said. ...read more read less
