Moreno Valley softball game to celebrate the Negro Leagues

A community softball game in Moreno Valley will honor the legacy of the Negro Leagues and the accomplishments of its players.
Set for Saturday, May 31, the event will include more than a game between the Kansas City Monarchs and the Homestead Grays.
The free event also will feature music, vendors an
d food, including free hot dogs. Displays will highlight the careers of top Negro Leagues players. It is organized by the Moreno Valley-based organization Unveiled — History in Focus.

The game will recognize Negro Leagues players for “their phenomenal contribution to America,” group founder James Harris wrote in an email.
It will feature local players donning the uniforms of the two Negro Leagues teams while playing a softball game.
The event is scheduled for 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Woodland Park, 25705 Cactus Ave., Moreno Valley.
Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs. A Negro Leagues bomber jacket will be given away.
