Dad beats up man after finding him in child's bedroom at Lee's Summit home: police

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A man has been charged with burglary and possession of child pornography after investigators say he broke into a Lee's Summit home and was found in a child's bedroom.
On Wednesday, April 9, around 11 p.m., Lee's Summit police say officers responded to a burglary in progress a
t a home in 1100 block of SE 11th Street.
Before officers got there, the caller said they had located a prowler inside the home in his child’s bedroom and had physically detained him. According to court records, the child's father beat up the man after finding him standing in front of his child's bed.
Officers arrived and took the man into custody without incident. He was treated for minor injuries at a local hospital.
Investigators said the suspect broke in through the home's back door before being found in the child's bedroom. Court records said he broke into the home with the intent of molesting the child.
The man has been identified as 42-year-old Robert M McDowell III.
Based on statements by McDowell, investigators obtained a search warrant for his cell phone.
On Thursday, April 10, the Jackson County Prosecutor's Office charged McDowell with the following crimes:
First-degree burglary
Two counts of possession of child pornography first-degree
Investigators have also been working to determine if McDowell was intoxicated or impaired during the incident. The child's father believes the man was high on meth at the time, according to court records.
