Braun declares emergency for 18 counties after recent storms

INDIANAPOLIS -- Indiana Gov. Mike Braun has declared a state of emergency for several counties in central Indiana after the recent storms.
According to a news release from Braun's office, 18 counties throughout the state are now under a state of emergency. According to previous reports, Indiana s
aw 21 tornadoes on April 2, impacting several portions of the state, as well as rain that brought significant rain and flooding.
April 2 storm spawned 21 tornadoes; 2025 tornado total stands at 43
The following counties are being impacted based on Braun's declaration because of flooding, storm and tornado damage:
Bartholomew County
Brown County
Clark County
Crawford County
Dearborn County
Delaware County
Gibson County
Hamilton County
Harrison County
Lake County
Madison County
Marshall County
Martin County
Owen County
Perry County
Posey County
Spencer County
Warrick County
Officials said this declaration is effective for 30 days and allows the Indiana Department of Homeland Security to provide financial assistance to impacted communities that have eligible expenses under the state's disaster relief fund.
"It is my hope that this step enables residents, businesses and local government to access needed resources and assistance as they assess and recover from these devastating weather events," Braun said in the release. ...read more read less
