KEVIL, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — Kentucky State Police (KSP), along with other law enforcement and emergency management agencies, are searching for a missing man in McCracken County after his boat was swept away by floodwaters. According to a release from KSP, the incident happened on Sunday.
The missing man has been identified as Lee Chandler, 27, of LaCenter, KY. He was last seen on Sunday when he attempted to retrieve his boat, which was swept away by rising floodwaters.
While the boat has since been located, Chandler remains missing.
Law enforcement and emergency services are using boats and drones to search for Chandler.
Kentucky State Police is urging the public to use extreme caution and avoid flooded areas, saying waters continue to rise in many parts of the state. They also say flood currents are often much stronger than they appear on the surface, and conditions below the water can be hazardous.
“Never drive, walk, or attempt to swim into floodwaters,” KSP emphasized in the release.
The search for Chandler is ongoing, and further updates will be provided as information becomes available.
