Hiker who fell 100 feet down cliff at Devil’s Slide rescued

(KRON) -- A hiker who fell down the face of a cliff Saturday at the San Mateo County coastline was rescued by responding fire crews, according to Cal Fire CZU.
The hiker was near the bunker at Devil’s Slide, south of Pacifica, around 6 p.m. when they “lost footing and fell an estimated 100 feet
down the face of the cliff,” officials said. They sustained minor injuries in the fall.
In order for the hiker to get cell phone reception and call 911, they continued to climb down the cliff further while injured, according to Cal Fire.

A rescue operation was initiated with assistance from Cal Fire CZU, Cal Fire SCU, Coastside Fire Protection District, San Mateo County Fire Department, North County Fire Authority, San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office and American Medical Response.
A Cal Fire SCU helicopter crew conducted a hoist rescue to safely retrieve the hiker from the cliff.
Officials remind hikers to stay on marked trails, wear appropriate gear and let someone know of their plans. ...read more read less
