Maryland man charged with murder in Fairfax County shooting

FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. (DC News Now) -- A Maryland man is behind bars after he allegedly shot and killed a man during an argument in Fairfax County last week.
According to the Fairfax County Police Department (FCPD), just after 1:30 a.m. on April 3, officers were called to the 8400 block of Madge L
ane in Woodlawn for a person who had been shot.
Once on the scene, officers found two men suffering from gunshot wounds. Officers began trying to save the pair and performed CPR until medics arrived.
Medics took one man to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. However, the second man, Xavier Alexander, 43, of Alexandria, died at the scene.

Throughout the investigation, detectives learned that Alexander was outside of a home on Madge Lane when he allegedly got into an argument with Shawn Banks, 35, of Maryland. Police said that's when Alexander began shooting into the home, and a third man was injured.
Banks then returned fire and shot Alexander multiple times before fleeing the area, according to police.
In coordination with the Prince George's County Police Department, officers located Banks in Maryland.
He was charged with second-degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and felony in possession of a firearm.
Banks is being held at the Prince George's County Jail, awaiting extradition back to Fairfax County. ...read more read less
