After a very active start to April, we’re in for a quieter and cooler week ahead. It’s a frosty start to our Monday morning, with patchy, dense fog in the area. A Dense Fog Advisory has been issued for parts of central Indiana until 10 a.m.
Many areas are still dealing with major flooding
from this weekend's rain. Indianapolis has recorded 5.94” of rain since April 1, marking the wettest start to an April on record for the city. Rainfall estimates show that the heaviest rain this month has fallen near and south of I-70, where Areal Flood Warnings are still in place.
Fortunately, the rest of the week will be much quieter, with smaller rain chances. A cold front moving through today will bring a few isolated light showers or flurries this afternoon. Winds will pick up as they shift out of the NW. Gusts to 30 mph are possible this afternoon and evening. The front will also create a temperature divide this afternoon: our northern counties will see temperatures in the mid 40s, while areas closer to Indianapolis and to the south will rise to the mid 50s.
Skies will clear tonight and it’s going to get colder. Temperatures will drop to the mid 20s early Tuesday morning. A Freeze Warning has been issued for most of central Indiana, so make sure to bring in or cover any sensitive plants. With the cold temperatures, there's also the potential for some slick spots to form on the drivable roads that still have moisture on them.
We’ll keep below-average temperatures for the rest of the week. Scattered showers are possible on both Wednesday and Thursday, with a few isolated thunderstorms possible. The weekend is shaping up to be fantastic, with temperatures closer to seasonal levels and plenty of sunshine.
