Thousands estimated for 'Hands Off!' protest in Columbus

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) -- An organizer is speaking out after thousands of protesters gathered at the Ohio Statehouse on Saturday to join a nationwide Hands Off! demonstration against the Trump administration.
Organizers estimate approximately 5,000 people joined the Columbus demonstration throug
hout the day.
Similar protests were also held in other Ohio cities including Akron, Toledo, and Cleveland.
Meryl Neiman, a volunteer who helped organize the Columbus rally, said more than 46,000 are estimated to have participated in protests in 57 cities across Ohio on Saturday.
"These were just regular people feeling compelled,” Neiman said. “A lot of them, it was probably their first protest. They were a little nervous. People who were not used to taking to the streets, feeling absolutely compelled to do that, that their country is under attack, that the American democracy that we've all grown up with and counted on is fading before our eyes."
Neiman said the unofficial count was an estimated five million people across the country took part in protests. ...read more read less
