Crews respond to encampment fire near I805 in City Heights area

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- Crews with the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department responded to a vegetation fire near Interstate 805 in the City Heights area on Sunday. The incident was first reported at 11:32 a.m. with fire engin
es responding to the 3500 block of Dwight Street.
According to a Sig Alert from California Highway Patrol, smoke was seen billowing from what is believed to be a homeless encampment near the freeway. The blaze reportedly spread to brush nearby.
Suspicious death investigated in San Marcos apartment
An official with SDFD told FOX 5/KUSI that the vegetation fire was small, not threatening structures in the surrounding area or motorists on the roadway. The official also stated that one individual had been taken into custody in connection to the fire, though no further details were immediately provided.
