Officers shot and killed a man accused of threatening his son with a knife Saturday evening, April 5, in San Bernardino. San Bernardino Police received a call around 5:32 p.m. reporting a man threatening to kill his juvenile son, and then received more calls from others reporting a man armed with a knife chasing a boy in the 1000 block of North Mountain View Avenue, in a neighborhood south of downtown and east of the 215 Freeway, according to Sgt. Erik Campos, a spokesman for the police department. Officers found the armed man and told him multiple times to drop the knife, but he refused to do so, Campos said. Police used a Taser and bean bag rounds, but said the man “continued to ignore commands and actively resisted all de-escalation measures.” The man swung the knife and ran back toward the home when officers shot at him, Campos said. Police recovered the knife after the shooting and administered life-saving measures before paramedics arrived. The man was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His name was not immediately made public. Police are investigating the shooting. The San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office is overseeing the investigation.
